Where to even begin in telling you what this place means to us?
Since it was built in 1978, it’s been a refuge for creative people and working artists, and has been in our family for nearly 20 years.
Poems have been written and edited inside these walls; ideas have sparked and developed; lessons planned. Stones have been lovingly polished and set, and countless paintings and drawings have come to life here.
It’s where we’ve gathered to savor life over the last two decades. Milan and I were married down on the village green in Bethel. We had our rehearsal dinner here at the house, with our friends and family settled into all corners of the property until late at night. We kept coming back to Bethel after that, bringing our dog along and then eventually our kids.
The pine floors have endured the nails and fur of numerous beloved pets. Many a Red Sox game have been watched with beers in hand. Guests from all over the world came year after year to enjoy the beauty of the area and great company.
We’ve spent the last several months lovingly restoring the MIL apartment (affectionately called “snug”) and are about to embark on giving the main part of the house (“modge,” the mod lodge) a facelift.
This is a special place in a magical area. We hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

The owners, Milan + Sara: we were both music majors and met at the conservatory in grad school. Sara is a line producer in the classical music industry, as well as a designer. Milan ran a community arts school for over a decade, and is trained as a concert violinist and Suzuki instructor. He now runs a successful home restoration company and still enjoys great music. We both adore Bethel and feel incredibly fortunate to be the stewards of this amazing house.

What’s with these names?
OLLA HOUSE: “Olla” means “woolen” in Irish, and was a way to honor Sara’s mom & stepdad, who had this place before us.
SNUG: Sara binged on British home & garden television during the pandemic and became fascinated with the idea of “snugs,” which are cozy little hangout rooms (dens, basically), common in UK homes. Snugs were also special little rooms attached to Irish pubs, and became popular in the late 1800s. She thought this term fit the cozy gem of a MIL apartment that’s part of the property.
MODGE: the main side of the house is a jaw-dropping 1970s beauty that’s a mod lodge. A modge.
